Anti Bullying, No Bullying, Stop Bullying! The problem is getting worse…
-
The statistics are staggering. Bullying has been around as long as humans have worn shoes (and probably before), but it has recently come to light that this age-old problem is having a very real and very negative effect on our elementary school students. How many times have we heard about it? The smaller or weaker kid being picked on in the school yard. Why do we need to get involved? Won’t the nature take its course and eventually that small, skinny kid will grow up and flourish (probably more than the kid who was bullying him/her?) Here’s why we MUST get involved. Now! One in seven students plays the role of either bully or victim. There are five Million students currently in elementary school who are being bullied. Out of these 5 million kids — nearly 160,000 may stay home due to the fact that school is a place where they can’t find safety from being bullied. This problem must be handled immediately at every level starting with parents. We need to take the initiative and not turn our backs (like the schoolyard bystanders do) and stick our heads in the sand. We need to take action to prevent bullying from becoming the new “normal.”
Schools are responsible, communities are responsible and now I’m hoping to reach out to the students themselves to take responsibility for their own actions. My Stand Up! Step In! Anti-Bullying School Assembly will teach kids how to recognize the bully, recognize the victim, recognize the bystander and learn what role each plays in an act of bullying. The show is fast-paced, fun and informative but offers a new understanding of this destructive process and gives kids the tools to become facilitators for a better school environment
Kids will be kids, yes, but lets make sure that school is a safe haven for our youngsters.
Next up, a complete description of this new, fun, fantastic anti-bullying assembly unlike any other in the schools!
